Judging A Book By Its Cover: Penguin Drop Caps

This is my weekly post where I highlight and appreciate cover designs and the general physical appearance of books. We all judge book covers to some extent. I can’t say that I’ve ever decided against a book with terrible cover art if I liked the sound of the plot, but I have purchased special editions of books, or multiple editions of books based on their cover art. If book covers didn’t matter, publishers wouldn’t put out so many beautiful editions!

I cannot get enough of these beautiful Penguin Drop Cap classics and I’ve showcased A (Pride and Prejudice) and B (Jane Eyre) previously – but when photographing C (My Antonia), it seemed a little lonely, so I took a few group photos and reshot B because…why not? I cannot wait until the day I own this full set…and then find a glorious shelf to display them all on. I digress….the ISBN for My Antonia is 9780143123156 and it was released in 2012. My one complaint about these editions is that they show dirt and dents very easily and I feel like they’re not meant to be read, though I may attempt to read some of them.
