This is my weekly post where I highlight and appreciate cover designs and the general physical appearance of books. We all judge book covers to some extent. I can’t say that I’ve ever decided against a book with terrible cover art if I liked the sound of the plot, but I have purchased special editions of books, or multiple editions of books based on their cover art. If book covers didn’t matter, publishers wouldn’t put out so many beautiful editions!
This gorgeous edition of Pride and Prejudice is part of the Word Cloud Classics (no surprise, I want them all) by Canterbury Classics. The colors are to die for and the covers are soft leather, nice and smooth. These editions show dirt easily however, so be careful – this isn’t a book I’d sit down and read. It’s from 2012, ISBN: 9781607105541.
It’s amazing how much the aesthetics of a book can change how we feel about it. Those with lovely covers really are a treat to read!
I agree! Special editions do have a different feel despite the content being the same.
