This is my weekly post where I highlight and appreciate cover designs and the general physical appearance of books. We all judge book covers to some extent. I can’t say that I’ve ever decided against a book with terrible cover art if I liked the sound of the plot, but I have purchased special editions of books, or multiple editions of books based on their cover art. If book covers didn’t matter, publishers wouldn’t put out so many beautiful editions!
Sadly, Amazon has caught on to the fact that I am addicted to buying different versions of Pride and Prejudice (and Alice in Wonderland), so now it endlessly suggests wonderful new versions for me to buy and I fell prey to the Classics Unfolded edition by Rock Point. (These just came out this year, by the way, and there are four classics at the moment, if you’re interested.) It’s a beautiful sort of pamphlet with illustrations that capture the bones of the story, with a little character page and summary as well. ISBN: 9781631061417. As a collector, I think this is a wonderful copy for collectors to have!
