This is my weekly post where I highlight beautiful books from my collection. We all judge book covers to some extent – I created this feature to highlight and appreciate the art and design elements of some of the books I own. If covers didn’t matter, publishers wouldn’t put out so many wonderful editions!
Now, before you get too scandalized and run from your computer, shielding your eyes (don’t do that – you’ll probably fall) let me say this book really isn’t all that sexual in nature. All the pictures are in silhouette form and while they’re certainly for adults, it’s not pornography or even the detailed images that you’d find in a real kama sutra book (at least, I think so…I’ve never actually looked at one.)
As Austen Month was coming to an end, I stopped by a local bookstore that I found out was closing (sad). Every book in the store was only $2.00 (happy!) A friend had sent me a picture of it earlier in the day and it was fortuitous that they had a copy left when I showed up. I mean, I don’t imagine the casual browser would be clamoring for this book, but still.
This is really just a book of quotes from Austen’s collective works that can be taken as innuendoes when read out of context. It’s a little joke gift for the Austen collector and the $2 price couldn’t be beat, though I can’t say I’d pay the cover price. It was published in 2016 by Cider Mill Press, curated by Joelle Herr, with cover and interior design by Melissa Gerber and illustrations by Joey Carolino. ISBN: 9781604336689.
