This is my weekly post where I highlight beautiful books from my collection. We all judge book covers to some extent (don’t lie, you totally do!) I created this feature to showcase and admire the art and design elements of some of the books I own. If covers didn’t matter, publishers wouldn’t make so many wonderful editions!
I picked up this middle-grade at a Scholastic fair recently because I love middle-grade and cheap books. Flying the Dragon is written by Natalie Dias Lorenzi, with jacket illustration by Kelly Murphy (whose art I’m now in love with) and designed by Susan Mallory Sherman, published in 2012 by Charlesbridge. ISBN: ??? (I apparently forgot to note it, and, I’ll be honest, I’m way too lazy to get it now or even look it up. If you need it, let me know in a comment lol.)
Visually, there aren’t a whole lot of interior details, but I enjoy the chapter headers. Even small details like that go a long way! I also love how the cover art spans the entire jacket, even the flaps.
