Mini(bot) Reviews: Storm of Locusts

I really enjoyed the first book in the Sixth World series, so when I saw the second at my library I made sure to borrow it.

Storm of Locusts by Rebecca Roanhorse
Not My Edition: Hardcover – 311 pages – 2019 – Saga Press – ISBN: 9781534413528

The Sequel to Trail of Lightning starts with Maggie being asked to tag along on a monster hunt. What the group finds brings Maggie back together with the Goodacre twins, who she hasn’t seen since the ending of the last book, and takes her on a search for Kai, who she’s been desperately waiting to see since the events of the last book. Maggie and the Goodacres find themselves venturing outside the Walls of Dinetah to take on an enemy whose power is more widespread then they imagined.

As far as blurbs go, this isn’t my best – but it’s a sequel ok, so you should have an idea of the characters! And I’m trying not to spoil stuff! Anyway!

This book was OK.

I just…

Maggie is the only character I like. I love that she’s stubborn and an asshole and hates that she has feelings. I love that she also realizes she has feelings and tries to do right by them. I love her foul mouth and her love of violence. I love that she’s an ass-kicker who also gets her ass kicked.

The rest of the characters just don’t do anything for me. I’m not into Kai, the Goodacres are fine, Ben was incredibly annoying. The villain was cool, but also way OP, and then also defeated a lot more easily than I expected.

This was a decent read and I flew through it in two days. If you enjoyed the first book, definitely check this out. But I’ll continue to borrow the series – I don’t need my own copies.

  1. I read Trail of Lightning in July and it was a 4 star read for me. It wasn’t the best book I’ve ever read, but I thought the world was very interesting. I currently have the sequel out from my library, so I am trying to muster up the motivation to read it… this review didn’t help lol It just isn’t high up on my priority list.

    1. Haha yeah. I really enjoyed book one, but not enough to run right out to get 2. And the second just didn’t grab me. Still worth a read if you liked the first. But I’m not going to keep my copy of book 1 and I’ll borrow all the future books.
