Judging A Book

Judging A Book By Its Cover: The Peculiars and The Devourers

This is my weekly post where I highlight beautiful books from my collection. We all judge book covers to some extent (don’t lie, you totally do!) I created this feature to showcase and admire the art and design elements of some of the books I own. If covers didn’t matter, publishers wouldn’t make so many wonderful editions!

Today I’m bringing you two more books I haven’t read yet! The covers gave me similar vibes, so I paired them together.

The Devourers by Indra Das has a cover illustration by Chris Panatier and cover design by David G. Stevenson, published by DelRay Books in 2017, ISBN: 9781101967539.

The Peculiars by Maureen Doyle McQuerry has a cover illustration by Greg Ruth (I love his site name), cover design by Chad W. Beckerman, and typography by Meagan Bennett, published in 2012 by Amulet Books, IBSN: 9781419712067.

  1. They do give similar vibes. Maybe it’s because of the hair, but both also have a mysteriousness about them. The Devourers is such a well written book. I admired the prose as I read; didn’t like the story much though, but oh man, the writing…loved that.
